Prior to Surgery

What can you expect during your outpatient surgery experience at Far Hills Surgical Center? Personal attention, high-quality medical care, minimal waiting, and you can usually expect to go home within a few hours.

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, special needs, or requests. We want to make your outpatient surgery experience as pleasant as possible.

So you know what to expect, please review this important patient information:

You will receive a Far Hills Surgical Center Pre-Operative Questionnaire (blue form) in your packet of information. It is important that this form be completed and returned promptly to Far Hills Surgical Center. If your surgery is scheduled less than a week ahead, you can fax it to:

937-395-4921

Or, you can bring the information to the center. If you do not have a Pre-Operative Questionnaire in your packet it is important that you contact the Surgical Center or print one from the website (look in the Forms area). If you choose to call a pre-op nurse will interview you about your health history and provide further instructions if pre-operative testing is required. This information is vital to your care!

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery. Any exceptions to this will be explained by the pre-anesthesia staff. This includes food, liquids, water, candy, chewing gum and chewing tobacco. Failure to follow these instruction may result in the cancellation of your sugery.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the Surgical Center the day of surgery. If you live alone, arrange for someone to stay with you for 24 hours after surgery. Without such arrangements, your surgery will be cancelled.
  • Inform your physician about any herbal and dietary supplements, diet control, or obesity management medications you are taking. The use of herbs can lead to potential complications during and after surgery including heart attack, stroke, bleeding, prolonged or inadequate anesthesia, and interference with medications.
  • Ask your surgeon and the anesthesiologist about stopping blood thinners such as Asprin, Ibuprofen (Motrin), Trental, Ticlid, Plavix, Persantine, Coumadin/Warfarin, etc). Most should be stopped at least 3-5 days ahead.
  • If you develop a rash, fever, or cold before surgery, call your doctor.
  • Your doctor may prescribe Durable Medical Equipment (DME) such as crutches, knee brace, cold therapy machine, etc., for your use after surgery. Please check with your insurance company to see if they will pay for these or to see if your doctor needs to receive preauthorization for DME from the insurance company.
