Discharge / Going Home

At Far Hills we strive to make your time at the Surgical Center as comfortable as possible. Yet, we never forget that our main goal is to get you back to the comfort of your own home as soon as it is appropriate. As such, the care you will receive in recovery will be prompt and attentive. From check in to discharge, from anesthesia staff to our own nurses, our main goal is for your surgical experience to be as minimally invasive in your life as is possible.

During and after your recovery time at the center you can expect:

  • Before leaving the facility, you will be provided with specific instruction from your doctor regarding your care upon discharge from the Far Hills Surgical Center. In addition, a member of the Far Hills Surgical Center nursing staff will contact you at home after surgery to ensure that your recovery is going well.
  • Have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Take it easy until your physician says you can return to your normal routine. Follow your physician’s instructions regarding diet, rest and medication.
  • Do not drive, operate machinery or power tools, drink alcoholic beverages, sign important documents or take any medications not prescribed by your physician for at least 24 hours following surgery.
  • It is natural to experience some discomfort in the area of the operation. You may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness depending on the type of anesthesia you receive or on the amount of pain medication you are taking at home.
  • It is very important to remember that you must have someone drive you home after the procedure. Taxi transportation is allowed only for patients having local anesthesia.
  • Contact your physician if you feel you are having problems after discharge. If you doctor is not available and your condition warrants, go the nearest emergency room or call 911.
